August 26th, 2022 – Winooski, VT – The team at Systems & Software (S&S) is excited to announce that it will participate in a fireside chat during the Digital + Cloud for Utilities Summit. The stream is titled “Expediting City of Atlanta’s Cloud-first Strategy Following Crippling Cyber Attack. Scheduled for August 30th, 2022, 1:00 PM – 1:50 PM. The conversation will be between Wayne “Bubba” Darling, Senior Director of Projects for S&S, and Daphne Rackley, Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO) at City of Atlanta.
During the Spring of 2018, the City of Atlanta, GA., was hit by a crippling cyber-attack. It caused a security breach critical to all major on-premises IT systems, except for its CIS –– enQuesta. The fallout was significant as it interrupted municipal functions within several city departments for several days.
Over the course of this fireside chat, Darling and Rackley will discuss what happened, how the teams worked collectively and quickly to implement a cloud solution, and what the City has done since the attack –– including expediting its cloud strategy –– to ensure it never happens again. The discussion will also cover why the City’s on-premises version of enQuesta was not a victim of the attack, their transition to enQuesta on the cloud, and what questions utilities should ask potential system providers to ensure they excel in the realm of security.
“The collaborative efforts between Systems & Software and the City of Atlanta allowed the teams to transition to a dynamic and stable cloud-based environment in record time. With the severity of the cyber attack being city-wide, this created an urgent and stressful environment across multiple city departments,” says Darling. “The experience of our S&S Team, trust, and strength of our partnership with the City, allowed both the leadership and functional teams to work seamlessly in this effort.”
